Justin.tv is the largest live video community on the Web. Over 30 million people watch and share 60 million hours of video every month on JTV. At peak usage, we are pushing about 250 Gbps of video – the equivalent of 23,936 standard DVDs per hour. We just opened up our fifth datacenter this week in New York, and have plans to open our six and first international datacenter later this year. In terms of viewership, we are larger than the vast majority of cable TV channels. And our iPhone and Android applications have been downloaded a collective 4.5 million times.
Not too shabby for a company that started as what amounted to a mediocre reality TV show. Many people in our position would be happy if they got this far. Actually, I’d say most people would be overjoyed that the company didn’t die after viewers got bored watching Justin fold his laundry. But instead of resting on our laurels, we at JTV are hard at work on new projects.
First, those of you in the e-sports community have probably noticed the effort we’ve been putting into promoting and supporting competitive video gaming. JTV has recently become the largest site for live eSports. We love gamers, we love gaming and we are dedicated to supporting the gaming community.
Second, the JTV mobile team has also been hard at work at our new smartphone application, Socialcam. Our initial release was rewarded with 250k downloads in the first month. Now, with a full pipeline of new features and improvements in the development queue, that number will no doubt continue to grow.
What you might now know, is that we are doing it with a full-time staff of only 26 people.
Needless to say, we need help. We are hiring all across the company: eSports team, Mobile team, and backend support. If you are a talented engineer we’d love to speak with you. Bonus points if you are a gamer (extra bonus points if you can beat Michael in StreetFighter 4).
